Become a foster carer
Awesome Funky Felines does not rely on a central shelter. Foster homes provide cats with a safe place to recover, grow, socialise and prepare for adoption.
What fostering can look like
A quiet place to decompress
Some cats simply need safety, patience and a room of their own while they settle.
Recovery and rehabilitation
Others may be recovering from veterinary treatment, illness, poor condition or a difficult start.
Growing and learning
Kittens and young cats may need socialisation, routine and experience living safely in a home.
What we look for
A safe environment
- An appropriate indoor space.
- Ability to separate foster cats from resident animals when required.
- A willingness to follow agreed care instructions.
Good communication
- Reliable contact with AFF.
- Updates about health, behaviour and changes.
- Prompt advice when something is not working.
Patience and flexibility
- Some cats settle immediately; others need time.
- Placement length varies with the cat.
- We discuss likely commitment before placement.
Veterinary care and expenses
Responsibility for supplies, approved expenses and veterinary arrangements should be agreed before or during the placement. Foster carers should contact AFF before arranging non-emergency veterinary treatment or incurring expenses on AFF’s behalf.
Can I adopt my foster cat?
Fostering does not automatically give a right to adopt, but if you become interested in adopting your foster cat, tell us. We can discuss whether that is an appropriate pathway.
