From foster care to regional cat welfare
About Awesome Funky Felines
Awesome Funky Felines grew from hands-on foster care into a broader commitment to cats and communities across the WA Wheatbelt.
How it began
The journey started in late 2019 after an adoption opened our eyes to the scale of rescue work in the region. A plan to foster one kitten quickly became two foster kittens — Captain and Ranger — and the beginning of years of foster care, transport, veterinary coordination and community cat work.
Growing with the need
Over time, fostering expanded into transport between regional communities and metropolitan veterinary services, practical support for residents dealing with stray cats, humane trapping, rehabilitation, sterilisation work and community education.
Becoming Awesome Funky Felines Inc.
The Awesome Funky Felines Facebook page was launched in 2021 to share the realities of rescue work and connect with the community. In 2025, Awesome Funky Felines incorporated as an association so the work could continue on a stronger organisational footing.
Our purpose
Our goal is to build humane, sustainable and inclusive solutions to cat overpopulation by connecting residents with practical assistance, veterinary services, rescue pathways, education and community support.
Our vision
We want Wheatbelt communities to have practical options when cats need help — and to reduce the number of cats born into situations where there are not enough safe homes or resources to care for them.
